This piece is done in pen and charcoal....what is called a charcoal wash. In a wash technique the "highlighted
areas" or bright areas are covered in charcoal pigment first , and then lifted off with a special erasure, creating
the changes in tone. It's early evening with a slight drizzle.  The sidewalks and street are wet reflecting the
trees, and the automobiles cruising along.

I decided to make the umbrella pink in order to make the focal point the man walking alone in the rain.....I 
believe it enhances the image, and people who have seen it do like the splash of pink against the black and white
tones.
